Asset World Corporation Launches Meliá Chiang Mai in Collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to Boost Thai Economy through Tourism
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and Asset World Corporation Public Company Limited (AWC), a Thai real estate developer focused on comprehensive lifestyle solutions, are moving forward to drive the Thai economy and revitalize the tourism industry in response to government policies. They aim to support over 19 hotels in their group to grow significantly and accommodate both Thai and international tourists during the Songkran festival, officially launching the Meliá Chiang Mai hotel, another quality establishment from the AWC group, enhancing tourism in the northern region starting from April 10.

Naowalapa Traisorat, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Asset World Corporation Public Company Limited and Ms. Somruedi Jitjang, Deputy Governor for Administration of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Ms. Somruedi Jitjang, Deputy Governor for Administration of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) revealed that after Thailand relaxed travel restrictions, eliminating the RT-PCR test requirement from the country of origin, only requiring a Test & Go on arrival and a self-ATK test on the fifth day starting from April 1, 2022, the overall tourism atmosphere in Thailand has immediately revived since the first day of the measures. This is reflected in the number of flights and the significant increase in foreign tourists, reaching tens of thousands per day, with expectations for continued growth throughout the year. TAT aims for 7 million foreign travelers in 2022, which is expected to generate tourism revenue of up to 1.07 trillion baht and play a crucial role in driving Thailand's economy once again.
Furthermore, TAT is preparing policies to fully unlock entry conditions to resemble the situation before the COVID-19 crisis (pre-2020) by proposing to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to abolish the registration in the Thailand Pass system, including various entry methods such as Test & Go and Sandbox starting from June 1, 2022. This will gradually clarify the overall recovery of Thailand's tourism industry.

In 2022, TAT will focus on driving tourism under the concept of Amazing Thailand New Chapter, presenting a new image of Thai tourism that meets all tourist needs with fresh travel narratives aligned with government policies, encouraging all sectors to transform Thailand into a new way of life in every dimension by integrating cooperation between TAT and public and private agencies.
Additionally, TAT is advancing the Workation Paradise Throughout Thailand project, which has been developed for three consecutive years under the concept of Working & Outing from Somewhere, turning every place into a work and travel destination, a trend that continues to gain popularity. This is expected to support the growth of both domestic and international tourism markets, as well as increase business tourism or MICE visitors to Thailand, which is believed to significantly contribute to the tourism industry's recovery and distribute tourism revenue to major cities in various regions to help drive the overall economy of the country.

Naowalapa Traisorat, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Asset World Corporation Public Company Limited (AWC) stated that since the beginning of 2022, the company has seen positive signs of economic recovery, aligning with government measures to revive economic activities, resulting in an improved domestic situation. This trend is expected to continue into the second quarter during the long holiday period when people travel home to spend time with family, go out, and dine out, leading to increased consumer spending and circulating money within the country.

“Currently, the company is ready to welcome both Thai and foreign tourists coming to Thailand, and we are very confident that if the situation improves, in 2022, all business sectors of AWC will recover and grow significantly, in line with the global travel trend towards Long Stay and Workation, which has led to increased weekday travel, allowing personnel in various agencies or organizations and working-age groups to turn every place into a workplace amidst a different atmosphere,” Naowalapa said.
Moreover, it has been observed that the overall hotel bookings of AWC in early 2022 have been lively, with bookings increasing more than double compared to the same period last year. The company has continuously invested in developing new quality projects and collaborating with leading global partners to prepare for the return of Thailand's economy and tourism industry, as well as to provide new experiences for consumers and create international-level work and leisure destinations.
Additionally, AWC continues to enhance its hotel business portfolio, recently officially launching the Meliá Chiang Mai hotel on April 10, 2022, which is a 5-star hotel with 260 rooms, ready to support tourism located in a prime tourist area near the Ping River and the famous Night Bazaar of the province.

To meet the convenience and provide a new choice for tourists, the hotel features a large meeting room to accommodate MICE business, designed under the concept of “CHIANGMAI CHARM”, blending the identity, art, and local culture that captivates through contemporary local craftsmanship, as well as offering quality food and products from the community that reflect the uniqueness and value of Chiang Mai. This is to respond to the changing lifestyle of customers post-COVID, focusing on health and environmental consciousness through the concept of “360 Cuisine”, which the hotel has closely collaborated with local farmers to promote responsible production for the community and sustainable food chains, emphasizing locally sourced ingredients from organic farms, whether from the Royal Project or Ori9in Farm, which can be experienced through the hotel’s dining options. A highlight not to be missed is the stunning view from “Mai The Sky Bar,” the rooftop bar on the tallest building in Chiang Mai, welcoming visitors to take pride in being the first hotel in Chiang Mai and the northern region under the Meliá brand, the largest leading resort operator in Europe from Spain.
